Living in the Southern US, summer time means that my makeup is never going to look flawless. It’s important, at least to me, to look like I put a lot of effort into my makeup, even when I usually end up putting on the bare minimum. By the end of the day, if I’ve been out and about in the Alabama humidity, my foundation is going to be a sweaty mess, and my eye makeup will probably end up everywhere other than on my eyes. However, a good, eye catching lipstick draws all the attention away from whatever makeup malfunctions I might be experiencing, so a bright lipstick is an absolute staple of my summer makeup.

Let’s look at a few of my favorites.

HauteLook Lip Bag Swatches [event ends April 27th at 8am pacific]

hautelookbag

I check Hautelook’s beauty section every single day. I have an addiction and I know it, but yesterday I noticed that the Hautelook Lip Beauty Bag is available again. I purchased the bag about two weeks ago when it first popped up. A bag of red lip products was just exactly something that I needed in my life. I’ve swatched every color that comes in the bag and provided a mini review below so you guys can decide if you want to purchase the bag if you may have passed it up the first time.

The bag includes the Lord & Berry 20100 Lip Crayon in Scarlett ($16), the Mirenesse Lip Bomb in Siren Red ($35), the Miranesse Glossy Kiss in Flirty Kiss ($26.96), the Lorac Lip Lustre Gloss in Ruby Lustre ($15), the Laura Geller Italian Marble Lipstick in Sugared Maple ($18), the Nyx Retractable Lip Liner in Ruby ($4.50), the Crown Synthetic Lip Brush ($6.15), an Allegro Lipstick Case, a Swoon Reusable Gloss Wand, and, of course, the lipstick patterned makeup bag. The lip products alone are valued all together at $115.46, and the asking price is a mere $24.00.

Mirenesse Lip Bomb
Mirenesse Lip Bomb

I had never heard of Mirenesse before, but the two products from this company are pretty much the most wonderful feeling things I have ever put on my mouth. The Lip Bomb is called a “glossy, lacquer, stain,” which seems to mean that it is supposed to do every single thing a lip product possibly can do. It is very high gloss, completely opaque. There is no drying what so ever, it gave me super clean lines, and the color doesn’t build up darker in some places when applying. It’s honestly just a little miracle product, in my opinion.

Mirenesse Glossy Kiss
Mirenesse Glossy Kiss

The Mirenesse Glossy Kiss looks like your basic lip crayon, but trust me, you will never put something so creamy, so soft, and so magnificent on your lips. When I first opened my bag and busily swatched everything on my hand, I hardly even touched this product to my skin and it slid on perfectly. The packaging looks a little cliche and goofy with the lace print around the bottom of the lid, but this product is so opaque and so soft that I forgive it for not being the most beautiful lip product I own. If I could shell out $35 for a lip crayon, I would buy more of these. But I can’t. So I’ll have to treasure this one forever. I would buy this entire bag just to own these two Mirenesse lip products for an extremely good price.

Lord and Berry 20100
Lord and Berry 20100

The other lip crayon in the bunch is from Lord & Berry, which I had looked in to, but never owned anything from before. This crayon is smaller than the one from Mirenesse, and a little bit brighter than the Glossy Kiss. It is also extremely soft and luxurious, and the slightly smaller tip makes it easy to get into the corners of my lips and cupid’s bow. This would be my top product from the bag if the Glossy Kiss hadn’t swooped in and taken it’s spot. This product has also gotten the wear test. It stayed bright and full coverage for a seven hour day, and I only had to touch it up along the inside of my lips once at about the five hour mark.

Lorac Lip Lustre
Lorac Lip Lustre

From Lorac comes one of the Lip Lustre Glosses. I’m not a gloss person myself, so even though I have really enjoyed Lorac products, this isn’t quite as much up my alley as opaque lip crayons. This gloss is absolutely stunning. There are red sparkles in it that are small enough to just make it shine without being obnoxious. It is fairly dark and full color just on it’s own, and would make for a gorgeous, classy take on the basic red if you didn’t want to put on your boldest lip. I would pair it with the Nyx Retractable Lip Liner too just to give the color a little extra help. And it smells like Fruit Stripes.

Laura Geller Italian Marble Lipstick

Then there is the Laura Geller Italian Marble lipstick, which was something of a disappointment. I’ve never tried these lipsticks before, but it is a semi-sheer, glossy nude color that I don’t feel was exactly right to go in this bag. It is a gorgeous looking lipstick, and it the case that it comes in is beautiful, but on me, I feel like the color doesn’t work exactly right. There is a ton of micro-shimmer in this lipstick, and I can’t think of any situation in which I would need a taupe shimmery lipstick. It applies quite beautifully, but I can definitely feel the shimmer. The color might look more flattering on someone with a medium skintone, but if you’re super pale like me, this might not work out for you.
